Looked quite miserable a few weeks ago,but seems to have bucked up and started flowering.

Oh no...that's so frustrating Julia. I am sorry to hear that. I have noticed a lot of young Ash shoots from the tree over the road in my garden. Poor tree....it's only just opened up its buds and now they are being stripped :(
