Growing in Cromer Church, North Norfolk Echium pininanas Tower of Jewels

Growing in Cromer Church, North Norfolk Echium pininanas Tower of Jewels

I don't know what these plants are... But they are absolutely amazing! You wouldn't believe how many people stopped to talk to me about them...!:o) Unfortunately, I haven't a clue what they are and neither did anyone who spoke to me! :D One lady did say that there were photographs taken for the local paper recently which gave the latin name - But she couldn't remember it! I've tried to google it but I'm a bit impatient... Are there any GoY members who might know? It did have a slight perfume and the bee's were very attacted to them...!!!:o)

These are Echium pininanas (Tower of jewels) They are fantastic...but not hardy enough to grow on Vancouver Island. The red ones are beautiful as well.
Some people on GOY grow them .

I recall seeing mass plantings of these at Ventnor Botanical Gardens on the Isle of Wight ... wonderful plants.

And they grow as weeds on the Isles of Scilly.

Thank you everyone! I've amended the title thanks to Klahanie for giving me both it's latin and more common name... ;) They are pretty spectacular aren't they...? I too, might have a go at growing them! :o)
