Moth

Moth

Not sure what kind of moth this is - possibly elephant moth? It was caught between the glass and the sliding door in my greenhouse and couldn't get through the gap. I tried to remove the screws to lift the door off but they were too tight (and rusty). Eventually I cut a tiny piece of the rubber seal and he squeezed out, rather battered by his experience. I left him for a few moments to fetch a trowel to pick him up and move him into the sunshine but when I went back he was gone. He was big and I wondered how he had got trapped in the first place. Could he have hatched there I wonder?

Well done on rescuing him... yes they can get in strange places cant they.... I get a lot of bees stuck between the glass sliding doors... and spend ages trying to get them to fly out... :)

Very ghostly looking moth Gee. He may be in Google images if you have not already looked. Poor thing, I hope you managed to get your door fittings back OK.

Thanks, Holly, sometimes they seem determined not to be helped, don't they?

I did look Dorjac but there was nothing really similar. He was very large, body about 2 inches and wing span 3 inches. I just couldn't work out how he was stuck in such a small space. The door is fine :)
