Hydrangea serrata 'Blue Billow'

Hydrangea serrata 'Blue Billow'

Most hydrangeas don't flower reliably here, the plants survive winter but die back and don't flower. Out of the dozens of hydrangeas I've grown, this is the only one I can count on blooming every year. I grew this one from a cutting off of my original and it's only a year old.

I use 3 cuttings per pot when I root them and that way it can make a plant like the one in the picture by the following spring. It also helps that I take hydrangea cuttings as early as I can, usually from mid-May to early June.
