Potatoes

Potatoes

Nice looking crop of potatoes in my half barrel. They are some that were shooting in my potato basket for cooking, so thought I would give them a try! I hope the bottoms are as good as the tops look when I lift them!!

I grew some that I found sprouting & they were lovely, the new type, & much tastier than when you buy them from the supermarket. I'm sure yours will be also. They're looking very healthy.

They look nice in that barrel Shirley. Even if they will not turn good, they are attractive looking......but I am sure they will be delicious.
And the rose behind is gorgeous.

Wow! You should get a good harvest from that lot. I'm also struck by the beautiful rose, behind.

Thank you all. The rose is New Dawn Klahanie and has done so well this year. The only draw-back is, it doesn't smell much. The smaller one on left is Zephirine Drouhin which does smell gorgeous, but hasn't grown so well.

Will post later if the 'spuds' are any good!

I have Zephirine Drouhin too Shirley, and this is my first year with her. She hasn't grown much in height at all, but lots of buds and the flowers are smaller than I expected. She does smell wonderful though.
I'll be interested to hear how the spuds turn out. ;)

Yes after reading all the gen about Z D before I bought it, which must be about 3 years ago now, (if not 4) I am a bit disappointed with the growth of it. I hoped it would be half way along the fence by now! It has had more blooms this year but that flush is going over now and is not as prolific as I had expected!
Still, it might get better over the next year or two.
I do feed it and it had a good start when I planted it.

Guess we'll just have to be patient Shirley. Gattina has one by her door and it must be at least 9ft high and covered in blooms.

I think they are ready to dig now because the foliage has mostly died down, so fingers crossed.
I will try some in a day or two!

I dug the potatoes the other day. There was quite a good crop, but a lot of tiny ones. I put that down to not planting early enough or planting too many in the tub in the first place.

I will put a photo up of the harvest!!
Well, at least we got more out than we put in so that's o.k.
