There are several varieties that fall under 'milkweed' Asclepias syriaca, butterfly flower, silkweed, silky swallow-wort, and Virginia silkweed. Have you grown this?

Norfolk is one of the only places in the UK where the Swallow Tailed butterfly breeds they also live off the Milkweed .... I didn't know it looked like that though !

I'm just learning about milkweed myself. I found out there are various species of milkweed. Each a little different; some are perennials, others are annuals like this one.

I bought this plant this spring, and sorry to say it has died before it bloomed. I have the Asclepias syriacus aplenty and it's the fav of the monarch as well as the Yellow Swallowtail butterflies. The A.syriacus is a biennial and has a gorgeous scent... does this one smell nice? I have Joe Pye weed which also attracts butterflies ..it is perennial and hardy in our climate.

I've started growing Asclepias Tuborosa, but haven't seen any Monarchs.
