Eastern Tiger Swallowtail in Siberian Iris

The leaves of my White Sapote- Casmimora edulis is a favorite food of them.
Last year I saw a couple of those huge creatures. First time in years.

My aging eyes are responsible for the poor focus... I have other shots which are better than this one. I finally replaced the tiny battery which controls the date signature on my pics too... so from here on the date will be correct. :-)

so many creatures are poised on the edge of extinction..or so I've heard. Let's hope the swallowtails are not one of those. Have heard a lot about your water problems in SouCal. hope things are ok in SF?
