150720 - I'd put about a dozen packets of seeds in bed 1 - some shoots came up here and there, but always weeds. This is the first proper show of proper flowers. I'm assuming that this laebl goes with these plants: I'm sure I put the labels in front of the sown area, but there wasn't one in front of these, just one behind. so maybe the named flowers still have to show themselves
thanks to Dorjac and Paulspatch for the ID

Candytuft.......now you've got them, they should self seed for many years to come!

thanks Dorjac and Paulspatch. I bought some "assorted seeds" in different themes: blue, easy, and butterfly-bee. Prob - the back of hte pack had the common name, the seed packets had the latin name - and ne'er the twain did meet, or not very often. so often I had to write hte latin name on the tag, as that was all the data i was sure of. and even then, given how big i needed to write, i had to abbreiate it severely
but now you've both named it I can add this to my "named" list, thnk you both!
I saarched "latin name Candytuft" and it came up with "Iberis umbellata" - of course, i could have checked the latin name for the common one, just thought of that, durr.
sounds like it originated in Spain - Spanish Umbrella??

Yes, I reckon so. Not that I know any Spanish.

me neither! but I seem to recall that the Roamns called it Iberia? wonder what it actually means? (never did latin at school, i was in the Thicko class)

I think Iberia is still a region in Spain and, of course there is Iberia Airlines!!

Not sure it will bloom again next year Fran. Think it is annual flowering plant but may seed as said. Just bought a Flower Magic Miracle-Gro pack from Wilko today. Coir mixed with 'up to 22 flower varieties', includes candytuft, snapdragon, sweet alyssum, zinnia. Just hope there are no thugs hiding up in this heady mix. Just let one go to seed and sneak off in a corner and bingo....sale price.... so could not resist the temptation to give it a go! Seeds mixed with coir alledgedly, we will see. Resealable pack too.

it soulds a well-varied mix, and cross fingers for no thugs in there. you could always start them off in planters or something to keep them corralled, I suppose.
lol "uo to" is vague, 1 is "up to"! remember those mats they used to sell? some kind of foam, already impregnated with seeds, all you had to do was roll it out in the garden and sprinkle soil on top. never had the chance to see how good they were.
