This tree has some of the most beautiful scarlet blossoms of any flowering tree. It somewhat common in San Diego and very easy to grow with extreme drought-tolerance. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Aug. 7, 2015.

The flower spikes are much larger than Greyia, also. This is a tree...most Greyia species are shrubby, although they can grow pretty tall.

Mine is only about a metre tall at the moment.

It grows about 3 or 4 times as tall here.

The flowers look a little like those of the unrelated Greyia.
