The millions of Jacaranda trees here are flowering again. They usually flower twice a year with the heaviest flowering from March - June. The second flowering is typically late August or Sept. most seem to be flowering earlier than normal. Photo taken in San Diego, CA. on Aug. 7, 2015.

That's late for a first bloom...especially for Pleasanton.

Hi Delonix, I have not been on here for ages as I dont have the time anymore but just wanted to tell you that in a local park where we take our grandson to feed the creatures and play on the swings there are two Jacaranda trees growing! I noticed the beautiful flowers in about April, no leaves on the trees just full of these amazing flowers, the leaves seemed to follow flowering, i remembered your photos and came home to look up on the internet and there they were, Jacarandas, growing in South London UK. They are in a garden behind lots of buildings and down very steep slopes, so they are protected here presumably? Just thought I would share this with you. :)

That's amazing! I wouldn't think they could grow there. They must be in the perfect spot in South London. They most likely get a lot of winter protection from the buildings and being on a slope, there's good cold-air drainage. I know when the trees get older they can be quite hardy. Of course, here in San Diego's mild subtropical climate we never have to be concerned about their hardiness.
Hope those trees will live a long time. I do know big freezes can even kill large established trees. This happened in Northern California during the worst freeze ever recorded in California during late December of 1990. I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area, at the time...many large Jacarandas trees were damaged or killed. In Sacramento, on the State Capital grounds the large Jacaranda trees froze to the ground. San Diego was not affected. Most of Southern California was spared (except canyon areas).

I saw one in Pleasanton still on its first- and only- bloom of the year. Just a smattering by now.
