A small flower up close. This was a plant I thought would never flower..it took a potting up and a dose of acid fertilizer- bada-bing- its now a good bloomer.

Thank you Klahanie. I bought it at half off a few years ago. It wasnt in very good shape. At least the label that said "red" was true it turned out.
From sickly and not blooming... Now one stem has leaned over and has rooted in a pot of Agave next to it. Getting a bit rambunctious.

Just wanted to add that I did not know that it was called Crucifix orchid. I hope you will be able to grow it. It is an attractive plant. I also did not know that you can grow so many tropical plants in SF area.

San Francisco bay area proper- basically its the all concrete surrounding the bay-is 10b in Island like San Francisco, to 10a in the rest of the parts on the bay or very close.
Its a cool to mild 10a-10b compared to the rest of the world's z10's. Summers are under 80f per day for all but San Jose.
We still can get cold..but it seems like every "deep cold" Klahaine? is milder then the last event as the years go by..not as long or as cold. Some years are totally frost free even.

This one is very easy to grow in the Bay Area. It's one of the most commonly grown orchids in the ground here in Southern California.

Stan:
The best thing about Epidendrum orchids is that they're available in so many colors. My neighbor has so many of these orchids in their yard. They have red, orange, pink, white, yellow, purple, fuchsia and light yellow.

We had lots of these in our yard last year (Mexico) The landlord was an orchid collector. Epidendrum was almost a weed there. Good it blooms for you Stan. Nice picture of it as well.
