I tried this outdoors. Did fine in winter- would not grow in summer. Our spring to fall nights are too cool. Has winter cold tolerance- but needs hot summers and nights.

This is what my plant used to look like for years. It was beautiful! It fading away from lack of water.
Actually my plant is: Ctenanthe-oppenheimiana-tricolor but it's considered the same plant in many areas.

I've had one in the ground for years. It's slowly fading away because of the horrible drought. I'm hoping if we receive the big rains this year it'll come back!
It should do well in Hayward. It may need just a little more direct (morning) sun than here to grow well in summer.
