Crocus speciosus 'Oxonian' - 2015

I'm not convinced this it the variety 'Oxonian' - it looks more like the standard species

I love the fall crocus, is its really growing in gravel? I never have quite found the right place for them, so yours might be the answer.

It's growing in a raised bed in a 50/50 mix of soil and grit - the gravel is just a top dressing. Sunshine and good drainage are key for a lot of the smaller bulbs.

Andrew, after saying no sign of speciosus, mine popped up on the 4th Oct. and were photographed. Now there are masses of them. Mine have veining inside.
