Clianthus puniceous thinks it's spring too.

I am not familiar with this plant. Is it a tree? Lovely Leaves.

If you look back on my pics Klahanie you will find it. Red lobster claw flowers, from New Zealand, also know as Kaka Beak. It appeared as a seedling in my greenhouse about four years ago. It's flowered the last two years, starts in bud about February so I think it's out of sync this year. It can grow large and some have it against a wall as a "climber". Although mine is in a large pot it's about five to six feet tall and about four feet across. I have two small plants of the white variety in the greenhouse and lots of cuttings from this one. More a shrub than a tree I would say. If you'd like a red one please let me know. If you have weather similar to ours it will be quite happy. This stays out all the time.

Thanks Thorneyside for the information. We do have similar climate as you and it is very generous offer but Canada is very strict on plant importation . We cannot bring over or receive plants from US either. I will have to search for one locally.

You also have seeds of this plant Thorneyside? Do you have it out even in winter? It can dip to 0 Celsius here in winter but most of the time is somewhere around 5 -6.

Yes Klahanie, but only from the red one. I bought seeds of the white online and have a couple of babies about a foot high in the greenhouse. They will go out next spring like my original red one at a year old. It has been out ever since and though the last two winters haven't been too bad the one before was hard.

Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter- Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)
Height- in metres - 4m (12ft)
Spread- in metres - 3m (10ft)
Climber- Some of these climbing plants will need trellis or wire supports if growns on walls or fences. Other grow aerial roots and are self-clinging - produces flowers to 7cm (3in) long in pendent racemes to 15cm (6in) long.
Evergreen - dark green leaves to 15cm (6in) long with 13-25 narrowly oblong leaflets.
Full Sun - shelter from cold drying winds.
fertile well drained soil - protect with a deep winter mulch. Often sprouts from base if cut back by frost.
