This is a good as Petra (large leafed) and Mammy (wavy leafed) will look in 2015. Petra is especially tender.
Mammy potted up last month.

Still. Celadine is one of the best for cool-compared to hot- summers. Even then Klahanie it needs that all day sun beating down on it.
It a cutting from Hawaii in the late 80's I think it was. It grew well until 1998,when I left it outside in a 28f freeze.
So,the whole plant was killed EXCEPT-lol- that very year a paperboy broke a branch off. And THAT is what you see. Some of it.
What a history gardens create. Soundtrack of your life with plants.

That is a nice story Stan. With a happy ending.

Stan, your plants look really good! The Plumeria trees here are still in full bloom.
Your croton Mammey is looking great! Mine lost many leaves because it dried out, badly and even with the incredible hot, humid weather we've had in San Diego my plant still looks horrible! I need to transplant it into a larger container. I've had mine in the back yard in the same spot for at least 6 years.
I heard that you got a lot of rain in Hayward, today. I talked to my mom. She said it rained for several hours today in Hayward. We're suppose to get some showers later tonight.

It was raining I guess around 2 am . Stopped a few hours later. Heavier rain then I expected.
I walked around expecting the plants to smile back at me.
Do you know with very little water this summer,Iochroma held up?....other years it looks sort of bare and hardly a flower by September because its hard for me to reach with my garden hose. It had have rooted deep after 10 years into some moist soil.
They are not supposed to be drought tolerant in a summer of 80f to 90f+
In cool Frisco? Its no problem-lol.

It was around 80ºF yesterday. We had a few little showers last night, for about 10 minutes, very disappointing. I was expecting more rain.
Established Iochroma can be quite drought-tolerant. I've seen some here in inland areas with virtually no water and they looked very full and very floriferous.

The paper said we had the heaviest rain since February. Chilly last night- mid 50's.
Sunny today.

We're having a few little showers today. We need all the rain we can get.
Yes, last night was cool here, also. The low was around 60ºF. It feel cool from all the high 60' and low 70 we've had for lows, lately.

Last night we had 5 hours of very heavy thunderstorm with record rains. Lots of flooding throughout San Diego. It was so crazy! We needed all that rain, though.

Petra for some reason melted at the first 35f night. And- i covered it. I now have it on the porch, out of cold rains. I see a sprout near the base.
Do you know of ALL the plants I have Petra is the only one to have cold damage?

Wow! Sorry to hear about your Croton 'Petra', hopefully it'll come back in spring. The last two mornings have been especially cold here in San Diego. It's been in the lower 40's. All my plants look good, though.
I hear we may be getting some good rains next week. I hope we do!
