I have not seen these here in Western Mexico. Would not that be wonderful if it would bloom for you?

It might be close to the radiator Bathgate but believe me there is never excessive heat in this old Victorian cottage. The houses were built when GWR came through 150 years ago. Never warm and not too much light either. I wonder if not enough light could be the problem.
They would probably grow well in Mexico Klahanie. They are everywhere in the Canary Islands but the seed I bought from Australia, so they must like it there too.

Strelitzia are relatives of bananas, and like sun. I have a S. nicolai I grew from seed (it's about to flower again) and it took 11 years for the first flower. Last year, on the same stalk, it had 3 flower heads. Each flower head can have 5 flowers. The estimate of height you gave is very low. Change the feet to meters and you'll be close. They need a lot of light, frost free, and protection from wind. If you ever put it in the ground, don't expect to move it or even to get side shoots. The roots are deep and strong.

Thanks for the info Wylie. Not much chance of me ever seeing a flower then! I wouldn't like to plant it outside in our climate so I suppose I'll just keep looking at leaves.

After I said that I didn't see the Strelitzia Nicolai around here, we went to the garden restaurant and I was staring at this enormous banana tree with white "birds of paradise" flower. Then I realized what it was. So they are around I just have to be more observant.
