Greyia flaniganii - Flanagan's Bottlebrush

My Greyia sutherlandii has recently taken -2°c with just a bit of leaf scorch on the older (softer) leaves. I'm rather relieved.

I think a lot of the South African plants are pretty hardy. Greyia sutherlandii usually looses its leaves just before it blooms. I think G. flaniganii will loose most of its leaves before it's in full bloom.

That is interesting. It is three years old from seed now.

Yes, a lot of tropical trees and shrubs will become semi-deciduous or deciduous before or at the time of flowering. Some examples: Jacaranda, Erythrina species, Tabebuia species, Brachychiton, Bauhinia species and many more.

My Deppea which got badly frosted at the same time is coming back from the roots!

That's great! Deppea is tropical it tolerates cool temps, though. It dislikes very hot temps. I've lost two plants to hot temps here. My neighbor Randy who has many, grows them on the northeast side of his house. The upper 80's (32 degrees c.) temps we're getting now is not good for them at all! It's very hot and dry here...and will be for several days.
