I'm beginning to think they are a bit like snowdrops and are better planted the green. I'm going to try again with plants this time.

I've ordered some from a company online to be delivered any day now and they're in the green, so I'm trying again.

They arrived on Thursday and Freya and I planted them around the pond. Now I just hope they survive.
