Ficus palmeri - Rock Fig

There's several so called "Rock Figs" which grow here in San Diego. This one is pretty popular and very drought tolerant. I have one, also. Unfortunately, this tree had huge branches broken (on the backside) from the fierce wind storm from a week and half ago. Photo taken at Morley Field, San Diego, CA. on Feb. 12, 2016.

I had one in a pot for years and it did very well, it even lived through the Dec. 1990 Freeze. It froze to the caudex and came back very strong. I have it planted in the front yard here in San Diego now. It was purchased in 1987. It's very big now.

Maybe change the potting soil mix I'm using.Add crushed lava maybe. Ficus petiolaris was fast growing- no problems.
F.palmeri?..she,is fussy.

Yes, Ficus petiolaris is very fast growing. I like both. They look so much alike. Ficus petiolaris has prettier leaves in my opinion.
Did you see the photo I posted of my old F. palmeri? (I just posted it) It's the one that survived the freeze of 1990 in the SF Bay Area. I have to cut it back because its leathery leaves are falling on my neighbor's property and she hates those leaves! LOL!

As a potted plant...very fussy. They barely carry a few leafs at a time..slow growing.
A plant that changes once its roots are in ground.
