Rare fritillary which I have seen growing wild in the mountains of Kazakshstan. Up to 12 inches high, the flowers may be yellow or orange as well as this brown shade. The bulbs dislike excessive moisture, and even growing it in a raised bed of gritty compost, I have protected them with a piece of old plastic flower pot.
