Since forever Its been said the SF bay area is too cool to grow sweet Oranges. Wrong. These are from a friends tree in Hayward neighbor Castro Valley. They are not the big Navel Oranges from the orchards in soucal...but they are plenty good fresh from the tree in the backyard!

In the Cherryland area of Hayward (where I lived or a few years) has some of the best citrus I've ever eaten. I think it's because of the very fertile soil and very mild climate.

A few years ago I let a local "expert" talk me out of planting blood Oranges. I bet Andy- they would have tasted great.
Right now- everything is just about possible.

Blood oranges should grow in Hayward. I used to see them for sale at a nursery in Fremont.

What else?
See who else is growing Citrus sinensis (Orange).
See who else has plants in genus Citrus.

Some of the best citrus fruits I've ever eaten were from trees grown in the SF Bay Area. My neighbor in Mission San Jose, Fremont had the best tangerines I've ever tasted! That still stands till this day. Her tangerines were like candy...extremely sweet and very high quality! What's so funny she hardly took any care of the tree! Go figure. :>/
