This Blackbird is a regular in our garden now. I can get fairly close to him without him flying off...he's obviusly becomi8ng more comfrtable in our garden.Hopefully, moreso over the spring and summer when i'll be out there tending to the veg patch.
The pigeon, of course , isnt bothered at all by my presence. He would just sit in the food tray and eat all day without even noticing me but, i have stopped putting food in the open tray as the Pigeons do seem to put off the other smaller birds.

After a years absence,we now have the Goldfinches back :o) I'm glad we didn't get rid of the Niger seeds,as they are eating them as though there is no tomorrow. They didn't touch them, the last time they came, and I almost threw them away ..they are .also feasting on the Sunflower hearts , as well as the Bluetits,Great tits, and even the Robins go to the feeders now..It's lovely to watch them ..I make sure our regular Blackbirds aren't left out too..Yours will be happy to see you in your garden..waiting for the worms, when you have finished digging :o).

Yes, the male blackbird is getting very close to is now.
I hope he will come onto the veg patch as I dig, etc.
I brought some Teasels with me from the other house (young self seedlings in pots) and planted them out in the autumn so they should flower this year and I hope they will encourage the goldfinches in. I haven't seen goldfinches since I've been here , not even on the Niger feeder.

Would be nice Dawn. No space for big trees and shrubs so I have to make the most of the birds that do visit.I suspect I'll never have nesting birds in this little garden.

May be a dense Clematis trailing along the fence a bird box high above your back door or a bird box on a wooden arch would nt go a miss in you garden Paul I have birds nesting in all three places. If you put the right food out they soon come.

I have many birds comng in the garden now for the feed I put out and I had two nesting boxes out last year.....one of those is now incorporated in the wild life pallet hotel that I built in the autumn.

It's lovely to see the birds coming to the garden to the feeders and as we garden, looking for exposed worms and grubs. We have two Robins who are both becoming bolder and bolder. I have to say though, I can't take to Wood Pigeons. ..greedy bullies.

I've stopped putting feeds put on the feed station due to the rats under next door's decking but still put dried insects on the ground for the robins and blackbirds.
