Close enough to stroke....

Close enough to stroke....

The viewing platform was high up for obvious reasons and put the visitors within a foot of these beautiful and seemingly docile and gentle creatures. I was itching to stroke one but decided it might be more prudent not to.

A great capture

When my son was a young lad, about 30 odd years ago now, we went to a park called "African Lion Safari"... the animals roamed and we drove through their paddocks in our own cars.. The giraffes stuck their heads right into the cars and made off with what ever they could get their agile lips and prehensile tongues around!...
We were expecting to obey the signs not to feed...but the giraffe made off with a bag of cheddar popcorn. It flew to the four winds...and we got ourselves out of there as fast as park rules would allow.
the monkeys in the same park used to strip trim panels off of cars and vans, and the bison used to rub up against cars! it was a day we've never forgotten.
The giraffes are so docile and sweet and their tongues are blue-purple. Their muzzles are soft as velvet..much like a horse. So if you get the opportunity again in future...give yourself a treat. They're wonderful!

When in SW France we used to visit an amazing zoo where we were allowed to feed the giraffes with popcorn, could never quite get over how enormous they were, it was the highlight of the holiday, went many times over the years, and I think we enjoyed it more than the youngsters!!
