in a word... yes! it's my knees and hands that are causing the most grief but lifting those spadefuls of soggy root clogged soil really took it's toll on my back and shoulders. I used a pruning saw to cut 18 inch squares of soil where the roots were worst. It's one of those jobs a person is happy to have DONE! lol... I still have another 3 feet to do and then I'll work on the other side near the road with planting irises and grasses.
So how much digging have you done? no lawns left?

I wish...grandchildren duties, much as I love it, and building works getting in the way, but I'm itching to get stuck in properly and get the layout over and done, then the planting bit, yeahh. Why oh why do we keep saying 'enough is enough' and still take on new projects ?

:-))) now that is the knub of it, isn't it? I can't go out and look about for more things to do this a.m., Marianne. We are getting snow/freezing rain/ice pellets, sleet and just about every other kind of ____ you can imagine. I wish I could take a break for about three days... a nice hot climate would be just the ticket. that would cure me of my winter cold-in-the-bones and remind me of the folly of wishing for things. BUT alas... Karen suggested a good book... at this rate I'll finish the Encyclopoedia Brittanica!

Solid piece of work, that should keep the stream from eroding the bank there. When you live with a stream in your life you so understand the mechanics of changing river courses, it's fascinating to observe....as long as you are in charge ? btw was linement needed??
