Mayan mask

Mayan mask (Hydrangea petiolaris)

Interestingly I have not planned for this to be a warrior. I hanged the mask in the dead rhododendron and planted climbing hydrangea under to climb up. Not until I looked at this photo I realised that it looks like a pre-Columbian warrior with his arm stretched and thumb down :-) I walk around it every day. I have to look at it just exactly at this angle to be obvious. I probably will disarm him.

I have several of these symbolic "Mayan gods" masks..... this one is chipped so it was re-purposed in the garden.

He's commanding the plants to grow forth! And they are enveloping him.

He looks a bit fierce to me, but the leaves look lovely climbing over the the branch.
