Nice garden and view Tommymoo I used to do metal detecting until quite recently and that fields calling to me :)

My garden is up until the laurel hedge around the middle of the photo. My husband loves metal detecting and walking around the field after rain (rain washes away soil/dirt and things like terracotta could be found, according to him). He found some nice things in Norfolk, such as coins, a belt buckle and a bit of terracotta wine vessel with 2 women carrying a bunch of grapes, waving their hands. He brought them to a museum in Norwich because there was a service provided by archaeologists to identify objects people find. Coincidentally enough, the terracotta bits were from South West of France where we have the house! He hasn't found anything just yet in France though.

Staying next to that you would have to detect it! ask the farmer nicely with a bottle of whisky ;) to plough it a little deeper see what comes up, Norfolk is a great place to detect and has produced a lot of great finds over the years, here in Scotland the rain can destroy a lot of coins it's definitely harder going but its a great hobby to get people out into the countryside haven't found my gold yet but you live in hope lol, as for France I'd love to detect there! tell your husband I said happy hunting Tommymoo :)

I can totally understand the metal detecting thing. The thought of discovering something ancient...very tempting! As I live on a site of ancient habitation, I should probably have a go myself! Anyway, I was going to say what amazing views you have there....I wonder if, like us, you are a littl exposed to the cold winds as well. Yesterday I was out trying to rescue a standard viburnum, which was almost horizontal, and I could hear the wind winding up behind the hills beyond. A few seconds later I was hit by a blast of snow blizzard. It was eerie hearing it coming! I didn't manage to tie up the viburnum, but it survived anyway. :)

It's brilliant Karen and you never know there could be a hoard at the bottom of the next field :) as for strange weather conditions had something similar a few weeks ago. It was a hail storm I could hear it all around me hitting trees and roofs for what felt like a few minutes before it hit the ground very strange.

Scotsmanvic, I'll tell my husband that you encouraged him to do metal detecting in the neighbouring field!

We also had some hail storms here in Norfolk today, 3 times, if I remember correctly, although each storm wasn't too long. We had a bit of snow during the night too: when I got up this morning I could see a thin-layer of snow on the roof and I couldn't believe my eyes! It's nearly May, for God's sake!! I'm travelling up to Scotland next week, to the Borders. I strongly hope the weather won't be too bad up there. No eerie snow blizzard, please!
