Gladiolus tristis - 2016

South African specie gladiolus, growing to three feet. Needs well-drained soil and sun, but should be hardy in warmer parts of the country. These were planted nine years ago.

Andrew, Is this the same clump as the one you pictured last year? I think the colour is different?

Siris - no, it's the same (I checked last year's picture). I think mine is a tristis hybrid as it has some red in the flower.

I've just caught up with last night's Gardeners World where they claimed this flower is fragrant at dusk. I went out at 8:30pm to see. Now, I have very little sense of smell, but the fragrance is VERY strong.

Yes, I watched that program, extra bonus...a scent. Will have to wait a year or two, for my seedlings to flower.
