They really like or need warm nights to grow properly. Its why they grow so slow in the bay area. Too slow.

I agree with you. They really like it warm to hot weather. They grow so well here. They can grow fast if they receive a lot of water and fertilize from spring through fall. They want to be kept somewhat dry in winter. This simulates it's native monsoonal climate.

It's amazing how common and popular they've become in San Diego over the last 15 years. I see them planted at shopping centers and as street trees. There's many in my neighbor hood. Mine is finally growing faster now that it's getting water. I used to think they were super drought tolerant (they are) however, when they receive tons of water when it's hot they grow so much faster.
