Privet hedge

Taken photo of my privet hedge which has allways looked lovely and green but just very recently if u touch it a big cloud of like white dust particle fly up can u tell me what this maybe as I don't want to see my hedge die thanks

I agree with Thorneyside, this looks like box (Buxus).
However, I think the White dust is sign of the box aphid.it's actually the excrement of the young aphids. I don't think the damage will be as severe as that of box blight...(I hope not) although it may slow their growth a little. Mine at my former garden, showed these signs most springs but can't say it affected the hedge much.

It looks very much like Box or is it the way you've taken the photo. If so, could it be box blight?
