I post for the record they do grow into tree's here. I could see this one has been pruned quite a few times too.
Not exactly lavished with love..

The is Erythrina crista-galli which I've seen many large ones in the SF Bay Area. There used to be a very old large around the corner from where I live. They cut it down!!!
:>((. The tree was probably over 55 years old and it bloomed a lot.
The one you posted is probably more the 50 years old, also. This E. species doesn't grow as fast as some of the others.
