Oh No ! do you think it would survive if you took the branch off Brian ?

I still have the Damson tree which was damaged a few years ago. Fingers crossed yours will survive too. I was advised to cut away the damaged part and rub soil into the cut. I admit I was sceptical because it was broken away from the main stem but it worked.

I cut the broken limb off last night as it was bearing down on other branches also tearing the bark off the main trunk.

Plum trees are supposed to be summer pruned so you may be alright. It looks like you have plenty of plums so sacrificing some for the good of the tree is worth while. I have loads of Morello cherries for the first time. I planted it 20+ years ago and only kept it because it was the size and shape I wanted in that spot. It always flowered but rarely had fruit. It might be because a neighbour has planted one but the weather has been good in parts.

Sheila don't think cherries would survive the pigeons & squirrel in my garden. They are stripping the Amelanchier berries now before they are half ripe.

Well done Brian....it was inevitable.

The squirrels obviously think you keep the best restaurant in the area lol. I checked online to see how you could use the unripe fruit and there are suggestions if you want to look. I make rhubarb and ginger jam and the plums have lots of pectin so would give a better set.

It really is a shame when a branch full of fruit breaks off! :-(( but if it can be saved as HB did with hers then not all is lost.
