Dypsis lutescens - Butterfly Palm

That's not going to be seen here. I wish I had my potted trunking clump back. In all the home renovating it died in summer because of all the power equipment around.

The one in the photo- that's a nice one even by soucal standards. Perfect form and perfect fronds.

There's so many here in San Diego that actually look better than this one. I've seen them this tall with multiple trunks. I think I've posted several pics of them. It's a much more common palm here in the San Diego Area than the Los Angeles Area...not sure why. However, I have noticed in recent trips to LA more of them.

I was surprised to see they thrive in the desert heat also. Fronds look a tab bit shorter in the dry super hot air. But trunking to 15-20' or so.

They are all different. It's a variable species. Some have big fronds, some small some are very glaucuous, some have very green fronds. It amazing how different they can be for the species. Some people say there's several forms...depending on where they're native in Madagascar.
