Recently dismantled a trough with small ones that had become overgrown ,not the idea time but they were being badly damaged by slugs and had a fear there could be Vine weevil ,the last fortunately unfounded.
They have all been split up and repotted hopefully to recover.the varieties taken out were Hosta Hope, Hosta Baby Bunting, Hosta lemonade,Hosta Cracker Crumbs, Hosta Pandora's Box, & Hosta Maekawa,
Cage is essential to keep squirrels out

I've raised my 1/2 doz hosta pots up off the ground - so far it seems to be thwarting the slugs but I remain vigilant all the same.
Too true, Sue, I found a walnut tree growing in my pot of geraniums. No idea where the nut came from but we do have a squirrel that visits.

Green finger definitely helps to keep them away from the ground I do have some individual plants are well away from the ground but slugs seem to go to any length to reach them.

You've done a good job there Brian its worth risking splitting plants even though its not the ideal time Tony has split up several of my favourite Heuchera's they are looking good so far .. Mari Snap I found a 5 ft tall Walnut tree between the shrubs last week but then we did use to have a Walnut tree it died soon after we move here so I'm assuming this is one of its off spring !

Amy, there was a walnut tree on land next to us but been gone some 8 yrs, maybe there's another somewhere in the village but I'm not aware of it, we also find plum & oak here & there - it's gotta be that squirrel, lol

Squirrels and birds can be such nuisances, digging in pots.
