Ditto ... I have tried so often to strike cuttings of Dianthus ... without success mostly ... :o(

I mix soil from the garden with sharp sand and take the cuttings at this time of the year. Also with wallflower Bowles Mauve. You can used John Innes mixed with the sharp sand too.

Hope you succeed Shirley. Cut just below a leaf joint and take off about six to eight leaves and bury them into the soil then water in and just keep an eye on them in case they dry out too much. Then water again. With Bowles Mauve wallflowers, I always take the cuttings from the lower part of the plant that are bigger stemmed and if they have a flower bud on take the bud off.
