Most of the smaller bees didn't want their photo taken. LOL. They buzzed off elsewhere. They are amazing creatures and work so hard during their short lives.

Standing near the hydrangeas and hollyhocks is like a buzz symphony. Last year we never saw a honey bee...this year things have improved... and as many bumble bees as last year too. :-)

That's a good sign Lori. We haven't seen so many bees and butterflies this year.

I remember reading earlier this year that a freak hard freeze had killed most of the population of our favourite butterfly (Monarch)in Mexico where they over-winter. It must have been true...I haven't seen even one Monarch this season. We have also seen very few of the yellow swallow tail and the black admiral which are usually around in great numbers. So I'm happy to say that our bee population seems to be on the rebound.
That's a fantastic shot, too. They are about as easy to photograph as a hummingbird, (which is to say..NOT) :-)

I used to keep bees so I don't mind getting up close Lori.
