Reed Orchids making hay in Hayward. (Epidendron)

Slowly but surely these will be as a big a clump as they get around here. Blooming most of the year.

It's one of the easiest orchids to grow and it's hardy, also.

They are easy for an Orchid-wink. But overall,a bit touchy. They don't seem to like peaty potting soils. I just don't have a spot in ground for such small plants. Cats would trample them in no time. And the watering I do Andy is all hand and hose. Nothing automatic.
I've seen a couple of huge pots of them. Far bigger then the ones I posted last year. Wildly overgrown and sun burnt..but they flowered like crazy. I'm waiting for the overgrown look..ha.

They like to be crowded. I learned that the hard way. My neighbor has hundreds of them their front and back yards. They gave me a pot and I transplanted them into a larger pot. Big mistake! They never did so well after that and started to die. I noticed many in yard all over the place...they seem to be very crowded in the ground with little water or in a big pot super crowded. I need to get some little ones from my neighbor.

By the way I only hand water, also. My washing machine water goes to the plants in the back yard. I have a big hose and I move it to the plants which need a lot of water.
