Planted out my Money Tree. I think its all hype.. (Pachyra aquatica)

This once was a small windowsill plant in the bathroom. Then for the last few years..its done well in a larger pot outdoors. So,I figure why keep watering it in a pot when I can plant it? In ground plants use so much less water per..anything per on plants.
Years ago I grew a large potted one in a greenhouse...bloomed every year.

It's really common here and it produces fruit. I used to have one and it died...not sure from what, though. With lots of water it can become a large tree. It's Pachira aquatica. I have several posted on GoY.

Its sold as P.aquatica, but its said to be really P.glabra. Fruits not as large, and has the thicker trunk base.
I grew a large potted one in the University's collection- again might have been P.glabra- that did have a onion base about 9' tall and white wisk broom flowers.
That was 15 years ago..and I've learned more since about what I had under my care I wish I knew then what I know now!

It's an interesting tree. Do you notice it doesn't have many roots. I remember the one I had for many years. It was 8' tall and had a very small root system.

I think I gave it away when I move to San Diego. I don't think it died.

It works out well the P. aquatica-glabra Andy is a houseplant too. This is the shady east facing side of the house. I think it should do fine. Looked perkier today then in the photo.

It looks really healthy. I know it becomes a tree here. I think it would do the same there. I had mine outside in the SF Bay Area for years.

I hope it flowers too. NO matter how large my P.bombax gets..no flowers.
I see a trend in tropicals that grow foliage and size..but wont bloom. Dwarf Schefflera,Plumeria- stubborn, Philippine firecracker all foliage and never blooms. The P.bombax and also Pachypodium lamerei.
Mango blooms! Papaya blooms!..Adineum blooms. A little.-lol.

My little tree never flowered in the SF Bay Area. It did flower once here, though. In the ground they flower regularly. Mine was in a pot. I think that's why it died after all the years in the one pot.
