Yes, I love the fruit! It's really expensive, though.
I really hate the white latex that stains everything! I cut a large one up and even the knife with oil was stained and ruined! How do you cut the fruit?

I've never bought a whole fruit Andy- those things are huge! They have them whole..what would be the price? $75 or more?
I only have bought cut slices wrapped in plastic.
The one I posted was the smallest hunk I could find. So,it was for the seeds. A bit past its prime too.

Actually my friend (former neighbor) purchased one for us to share. It cost him about $40.00. We saved the seed and they germinated very fast! It's just that they're very tender when at seedling stage even here in San Diego. Mine all died! My friend had his in the ground. It did better planted directly into the ground. It's also a slow-grower here (based on my observation).

$40 for one Jackfruit fruit is too much for me. They had various sizes..the huge ones? Had to be $75.
They must sell them. They aren't for show-lol.

Me too! That's why I was glad my former neighbor bought it! LOL! This was a long time ago. I bet the price is much higher now.
The ones that have been grown in San Diego were the size of a basketball! It was incredible to see the photos at Ong Nursery. In the tropics they grow much larger.

It also seems to me they ALWAYS have them. Huge, twice the size of a big watermelon (all I can think to compare them too) for sale and whole.
They come from Mexico..I wonder if they come from Sinaloa- a sort of tropical California OR..the wet tropics of Mexico farther south or east like Cancun?

I think they would be grown in the wet tropical Mexico.
All I know they need to be grown commercially in a tropical climate.
I discovered a ~10' tall beautiful Jackfruit tree by the Michelle Obama garden on my way to work the other day. It's funny I never noticed it. There's several really nice papayas, bananas, and cherimoyas there. I have to get photos!

I planted seeds. They were sprouting in a shallow dish that had just enough water. Now in pots outdoors on a shelf.
I dont know why..not grafted. Seedlings will take forever.
Just for fun I guess.

The seed sprout quickly. They just don't grow too fast. It's a very ornamental tree, though.

This photo is of species Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus).
Thats many years in the making. They are ornamental. The fruit are sort of pineapple flavored. A tropical taste.
