This tree is a little sparse because of the drought. It should be much fuller. Photo taken at the San Diego Zoo on August 9, 2016.

They flower very well in pots. My first flowering beautiful African Tulip tree was in Hayward. It grow very fast and beautifully! The only mistake I made was planting it by a down spout. It got too much water one winter and it drowned. I saw it being offered in a nurseries in San Jose. It tolerates temps down to 28 degrees for short period of time. Of course, it will loose all it's leaves in winter. It loves the soil in the SF Bay Area, though.
