I practically recite prayers before this plant begging it to grow-ha. Just not a fast one. On the other hand its lasted over three years now.

Im not sure. I read you did..and always plant a group. Now they say that Maridol male Papaya can have them- but smaller.
The only other bay area Papaya tree photos Klahanie are of the same size as mine. I think we all planted in the "open window time" of the mild drought year winters.
Now that last year was average for rains?...the already established Papaya's didn't rot out. Lucky timing.
I never could get them past the end of November in every previous try since the 80's.

Good luck with it Stan. I hope it will stay with you for many years to come. It is attractive plant even without the fruit.

There's male, female and the perfect bi-sexual flower. Typically, only female and bi-sexual flower bear fruit. The female flower has to pollinated with a male flower. However, on some male plants (because papaya is an herb) they produce good fruit. My male plant has produced good fruit in the past. I have several pics of male papaya plants producing lots of fruit.

I forgot to mention Maradol papayas grow much slower than the Hawaiian Solo types. They live longer and produce fruit for more years. My Hawaiian solos and other varieties grow so much faster and don't live as long.

It looks healthy Stan. Very nice plant. Leaves are beautiful . I bet that they are not so many producing papaya trees in the Bay Area. But you need a female male plants to get an edible fruit, no????
