Yucca recurvifolia. In bloom.

Lovely blooms. I am looking for some interesting yucca that would do well on Vancouver Island. Any suggestion Stan?

This would be a good one for you Klahanie. It can take the snow and rains being native to the southeast.
This also comes in a "red form" very attractive-but smaller- and a variegated form also.
The top of the line hardy Yucca for just pure beauty and hardiness also is Yucca rostrata. You would need to plant it in a raised bed of gravelly soils..something fast draining like perlite also would work.
They sell them with trunks..at more cost but saves you many years of waiting. They are very beautiful plants. Blue leaves.

I will look around what is available. I see mostly Yucca filamentosa and I like the flower spikes and some of them have variegated leaves as well. I was wondering if it is the hardiest. But the blue leaves and some elevated trunk like yours would be very nice. I like the shape of yours Stan. But... I do not think I have 20 years to wait for it.

That's a good one. Adam's needle is very hardy. There are quite a few high desert Yucca's and hybrids.
You should be able to find a larger Y.recurvifolia in blue Klahanie in larger sizes. A 15 gallon potted plant 3' or more with several heads would look great with some gravel under it in your garden.
But,I really would try to get as large a plant of any Yucca as possible for you. Its really worth saving many years of waiting.

I bought Yucca filamentosa today . The variegated kind. A small one in a 1gallon pot. Still will be on lookout for bigger one. I have sunny spot and room for both.

Y.whipplei is another hardy. Finding them is the hardest part. Y.recurvifolia in its red form is so different from the plain blue its like a different plant. More friendly it seems to the gardener too. Not as spiny as I recall.
