Pitchers on Sarracenia leucophylla (for my file) (Sarracenia)

Bought on a whim. Sarracenia needing a hot sunny position. Will need winter protection. Potted on and at present in small pond raft.

Nice one.......

Sarracenias are becoming a bit of an obsession, but as they are quite particular about growing conditions, it is a daft.

ooohhh just seen it now I have grown before but lost it in 2012/13 realy hard winter , will bulk up nicely in the two to three years.

I will take some photos of my lot when the colour starts to change in the next few weeks.

Joyce Cooper my new plant this year I am looking forward to , as its orange/red colouration which appears to be air brushed on, so is not the solid block colour you normally see. The veins on the rear of the lid are reversed out so they are green on a dark background, rather than red on green.

So pleased with this one. The pitchers whilst the temp was 37 oC were crispy, but having sprayed them regularly, more pliable. I have sorted out a jardiniere under the carport to keep them out of any hard frost this winter. Look forward to your pics. You have started an obsession Gg!

Hi Siris

They will take freezing temperatures but not left in water , just have to keep them damp and nothing in the tray, and with no new growth and going into dormancey thats easy to do , thats what I do and they all do fine. Just have to keep a eye out for slugs. I also leave all the pitchers on over winter and remove them when the new growth starts in the spring I think this helps as well.

Dont blame me for your new "obsession" but saying that should I mention "Iris" lol with me.

After the drop in temperature today the pitchers are drying up at the top on this one.

Siris , some varieties do this earlier than others and it depends how old the pitchers are as in the first ones to grow ... a few of mine have done the same thing over the past week so nothing unusual.

Also the temperature changed over a couple of days from 28 oC to normal Brit September.
