It is a member of the Amaryllis family from South Africa. Very easy to grow if you can find it.

Some still list it as Vallota speciosa. The common name of Scarborough Lily may bring more results as well.

It is very beautiful. Best of all, as with many members of the Amaryllidaceae family, it produces lots of offsets so rapidly forms a nice clump.

Is this the usual time for blooming there? I always think of them blooming in late winter or very early spring in the ground here.
