Acer palmatum 'Butterfly'

Acer palmatum 'Butterfly'

Acer palmatum 'Butterfly', variegated, delicate leaves.
(This and 'Orange Dream' were left over from a mixed tray of Acers in 4ins pots, bought from the flower market about 6 or 7 years ago).

Acers are obviously a favourite of yours. You seem to have them in pots. Is your soil not acidic enough for them ?

I can't grow anything that needs ericaceous without it's in a pot Siris. The garden is on gravel and clay, not a good combination. Over the years I've had mushroom compost, manure and my own compost on the soil but still it dries and bakes rock hard in summer and lays wet in winter, from the river at the bottom.
The other thing is, that for years I've been waiting for the outcome of the third runway at Heathrow as to whether my plants will be moving with me.
I've come to the conclusion I could be dead by the time they sort it. Politicians don't have have to live for years under this cloud but we do. Now after 13 years of yes and no they've given it out as Heathrow, but we will still have to go for years with enquiries and arguments against it. We had this for years with Terminal 5 and we, as the local community, just need to know one way or the other.

I am so sorry for you living under the threat of a new Heathrow runway. At least your Acers are in pots, so movable, if you aren't too old by the time anything starts to happen!!!
