This is a beautiful tropical, Central American native shrub starts flowering in fall through spring here in San Diego, CA. Photo taken Oct. 28, 2016.

It's a really nice flowering plant. It's super easy to grow from cuttings. It is a really tropical plant. It grows very well here, though.

I think it would be fine here. A good patio plant. I had an in ground Justicia Shrimp plant for a few years.
Like the Strobilanthes I think it was in too much shade in the backyard, and the soils too cool even in summer. My front yard shade is much warmer.

This one I wouldn't count on to be reliably hardy in the SF Bay Area. Believe-it-or-not, this plant is only about as hardy as a croton (it really hates temps below 50ºF (10ºC). Even though, it's cold-hardy to 35ºF.
