Satakentia liukiuensis - Ryukyu Palm

Satakentia liukiuensis - Ryukyu Palm (Satakentia liukiuensis - Ryukyu Palm)

This is a beautiful palm which is somewhat difficult to grow in San Diego. It's native the southern Ryukyu Islands where it's extremely hot and humid pretty much all year with lots of rain. The rain is what we lack in San Diego. Photo taken at the San Diego Zoo on Nov. 2, 2016.

I almost bought one years ago for $100. Good thing he lives just far enough I didn't make the time. Probably would have died long ago by now.

It's a palm which overall doesn't grow too well in California. I have seen a few very nice ones...however, it's only been a few.
