Billbergia macrocalyx (Billbergia macrcalyx)

This had more flower buds, but the wind got them :(
There is a pup growing on the base, so more flowers next year.

Its a beautiful Island the Azores Wylie. I was traveling there via Google. Sycamores fronting a huge Alcanteria imperialis bromeliad. Tree ferns. It does remind me of Golden Gate Park OR,what if all of bay area California got 35 inches of rain like the Azores and almost never a frost.
I was looking at Ponta Delgada. Any other tips?

That one avenue with King palms lining the street? San Francisco is just starting to do that now.

Ponta Delgada and São Miguel are where the tourists go. The lake, Lagoa das Sete Cidades is a big attraction. But on Terceira, Angra do Heroísmo is a World Heritage site. I really like the center of the Island; from Altares to Praia via the Caldera. You aren't going to be able to see the sight from the boats that go around the Islands and are escorted by dolphins while you see waterfalls that go over the cliffs into the sea. You can try along the waterfront of Horta on Faial. It is where all the trans-Atlantic yachts stop. On the western tip is where the last volcano to erupt around here turned everything to lava.

What an unusual plant, and the Azores information for Stan is very interesting.

I am trying to expand my bromeliad collection since a couple of them do really well here. The Billbergia nutens I have in my woods are starting to open.
