Two morning in the 34-35f range (1C) did this. Other sensitive plants had a wilt here or a singe there- Ice Cream banana held up much better.

Nothing to the Mango's,Papaya's,Guava's. Its been cold..but we did stay above 32f. The official low I saw was 35f..I saw 34 on my home backyard thermo. But,I have just one..it could have been slightly better in the front yard.
We dodged another winter.
I'm ready to go..more or less-ha.

The Papaya did get touched. A couple of top most leafs- part of them discolored.
None black or even close to wilted.

It's not winter yet! We still have 3 months of winter to go through. :>))
Papayas can show damage to their leaves in about a week. Even in cool weather my Red Caribbean plant (extremely sensitive to the slightest chill) has issues with temps in the mid-40's for more than 2 or 3 days. The other ones are tough, though (by San Diego's mild subtropical climate standards). lol!
It's much milder tonight, today the high here was 75 degrees!

The Catt is still blooming, things are not at the October peak..but,the Front yard is fine.I don't have anything in front to bring shame from frost damage..this year.
Did you see my GO blog of gardening on tree's in the bay area,Andy? Links to a great Asian style yard. A new trend.

Stan,
Thank for the information your blog. I'll check it out.
I hope the weather has gotten milder the last day, there!
It has here. This morning it's already 60 degrees at 8:30 a.m. It's heading for a high of 77 degrees today where I live...not too bad for Dec. 20th! I see there may be some change for the end of this week...more cooler rain heading this way. We need the rain!

Ha!..I got a news tweet. San Diego might get snow for Christmas.
I wouldn't bet on it.

It's raining here at 11:00 p.m. and still 65 degrees! The high here today was 78 degrees! :>)) The rain is coming from south of Baja.
I did hear on top on Mt. Laguna (6,000 ft) there may be snow on Christmas Day. That would be something.

60's today. That feels like 100f after a 34f morning and getting into a car that's cold in the driveway Monday morn.
So far,the damage is..youngest leafs. Or a Banana leaf.
One of the Red Guava's fell of the tree pre freeze. Before I could tell you if it tasted good...the wife ate it! I never got to see it even cut open.
She said it wasn't very sweet..but good. She ate the whole thing.
Not bad for a tiny tree I planted in August. Next years should be even better.

The low last night was 59F! That's warm for San Diego, for this time of year. It was 76 degrees before the warm tropical rains came in this evening. I had all the windows and doors opened. It so nice to hear and see rain! :>))
The next storm arriving on Christmas eve will be colder. I heard it will rain all day. That's so good for our drought!
I'm sure the guava will do really well for you. They're pretty tough and grow very fast once established. Soon you'll have so many guavas you won't know what to do with them.

This photo is of species Ensente maurelli.
The mango tree looks great, though! Bananas come back really fast, luckily! The mango tree will get tougher as it gets older, too. Mango trees don't come back as fast...so luckily it wasn't damaged!
