This California Valley Oak century's old is a perfect example. Budding off smaller designs that are the same as the largest.

Large old oaks are such majestic trees! I love the evergreen live oaks! They're the signature tree of Central and Northern California.

I agree. Oaks are magnificent trees. Actually, one of the best treats of winter is to be able to see the wonderful structure of the trees without their leaves. I love it. I have an Ash across the road from me and I find it so relaxing to just sit and look at all the beautiful shapes that the branches make as they interact with one another. :)

Tree's this size are getting difficult to find in suburbia. This is just the top 1/4 of the tree. It has to be 75' tall and wider.
Most succumb to being watered in summer. They MUST have summer drought. Not many people can resist planting something close to them...doom for our native monarch.
This tree is treated like royalty in an upscale are. Lets hope it lives another few century's!

Oak trees have the greatest silhouettes. ...especially the pin oaks. rugged looking and spikey! There is a large oak along the 417 (which has been widened into a four lane highway) near Renfrew. it appears to be in the path of demolition for next phase and someone has placed pennant flags all over it. I'd hazard a guess that it's about 3 ft across at the base and looks marvelously healthy for it's age. I can see people mobilizing to save this tree...it is a masterpiece of that ever expanding symmetry.
