This Royal palm is growing in Balboa Park. It has an emerging inflorescence, which should open in the next few months. Taken on a beautiful warm 80ºF (27ºC) day in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Jan. 8, 2017.

I thought that they're suppose to emerge in spring. This is the first time I've seen these 4 Royal Palm trees in front of the International Houses in Balboa Park with inflorescence. I think it'll be the first time flowering. They were planted I believe about 7 or 8 years ago. There's another Royal Palm not too far from these trees. It's a giant! I must be taller than 65' (20 m).
I love Royal Palms! There's were two planted in 2009 close to the Botanical Building and one died from the drought. :>(( Now. it looks strange with just one on each side of the reflecting pool in front of the Botanical Building.
Here's a pic.
This was the day it was planted:

It was most likely 20' (6.1 m) plus tall, when it died last year. The one the left side of the Botanical Building still stands. I hope they remove the one of two on the side of Botanical Building and plant in its spot.
Here's a pic. it's the one in back of larger tree. The one in the background doesn't get enough sun, so it doesn't grow much at all.

Lori,
You're welcome. :>))
Royal palms grow more than 65 ft tall here. In South Florida and in the tropics they grow more than 100 ft.

Is the emerging inflorescence something that the extra moisture prompted... or is it simply a matter of time of year? Such beautiful trees... wish they grew here! :-)
